How-to Guide

1. Open the Merge Tables entry

Entry path: Data tab → Merge Tables

  1. Open a WPS Spreadsheet online collaboration document.
  2. Click the Data tab at the top.
  3. Find the Merge Tables button on the right side of the toolbar.
  4. Click the button to view the drop-down menu with Merge Tables and Re-merge.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: You can see the Merge Tables button and its drop-down options.
  • Next step available: You can continue with a first merge or a refresh.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no spreadsheet document is open, the entry is not available.
  • Environment note: For online collaboration, keep the network connection active.

2. Run the first merge

Entry path: Data tab → Merge Tables → Merge Tables

  1. Click Merge Tables to open the Merge Worksheets dialog.
  2. Click the Select... link in the upper-right area and choose one or more worksheets to merge.
  3. Set the merge options as needed, including Worksheet contains headers, Number of header rows, Remove duplicate rows, Merge to, Indicate data source, and Auto-update data.
  4. Choose to output the result to a new worksheet or another target location.
  5. Click Start Merge to run the operation.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: WPS creates a merged result worksheet or outputs the result to the selected location.
  • Next step available: You can review, edit, or save the merged data.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If source worksheets use very different column structures, the merged result may not align correctly.
  • Environment note: It is recommended to keep column names and column order as consistent as possible before merging.

3. Refresh an existing merge result

Entry path: Data tab → Merge Tables → Re-merge

  1. After source worksheet data changes, open the collaboration document that contains the merged result.
  2. Click the Data tab and then the Merge Tables button.
  3. Select Re-merge from the drop-down menu.
  4. Wait for WPS to refresh the merged result with the previous sources and settings.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The existing merged result is updated to the latest data state.
  • Next step available: You can review the refreshed result without selecting the sources again.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If no previous merge result exists, Re-merge cannot complete the initial setup.
  • Environment note: Refresh works more smoothly when the source sheets remain accessible.
