How-to Guide

1. Merge cells from Tools > Home

Entry path: Tools → Home → Merge Cells

  1. Open your WPS spreadsheet and tap Edit in the lower-left corner to enter editing mode.
  2. Drag the selection handles on the cell borders to select the adjacent cells you want to merge.
  3. Tap Tools and switch to the Home tab.
  4. Find and tap Merge Cells.
  5. The selected cells are merged into one cell, and only the top-left cell content is kept.
  6. If you want to cancel the merge, tap Merge Cells again.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the selected adjacent cells appear as one merged cell.
  • What you can do next: you can continue typing, formatting, or saving the spreadsheet.
  • No unwanted result: content that is not kept does not move to another cell automatically.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if the selected cells are not adjacent, the merge may not work as expected.
  • Data impact: after merging, only the top-left cell content is kept and other selected content is overwritten.

2. Merge or split cells from the floating toolbar

Entry path: Floating toolbar → Merge / Split

  1. Select the cell range you want to merge in the spreadsheet.
  2. Tap to open the floating editing toolbar.
  3. Tap Merge on the toolbar to combine the selected cells into one cell.
  4. If you want to restore the original structure, open the floating toolbar again.
  5. Tap Split to turn the merged cell back into separate cells.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: after Merge, the selected area becomes one cell; after Split, it returns to separate cells.
  • What you can do next: you can continue editing cell content or adjusting table formatting.
  • No unwanted result: after splitting, the cell structure is restored for individual editing.
