1. Apply italic from the toolbar button

Feature entry: Home tab → Italic

  1. Select the cell you want to format, or select part of the text inside a cell.
  2. Click the Italic button on the Home tab.
  3. The selected text is displayed in italic immediately.
  4. Click the same button again to remove italic formatting.

Success Criteria

  • The selected text appears in an italic style.
  • Clicking again returns the text to normal style.
  • The original cell content remains intact.

Tips While Using

  • If you only want to format part of the text, enter cell edit mode before selecting the text.
  • Some fonts may show a lighter italic effect than others.

2. Use the keyboard shortcut for italic

Feature entry: Ctrl + I

  1. Select the target cell or the selected text inside a cell.
  2. Press Ctrl + I.
  3. Check whether the text has switched to italic.
  4. Press Ctrl + I again to remove italic formatting.

Success Criteria

  • The text style changes immediately after the shortcut is used.
  • You can complete the action without opening extra menus.
  • The same shortcut can be used repeatedly to toggle the format.

Tips While Using

  • Make sure the current focus is inside the WPS Spreadsheet editing area.
  • If another program uses the shortcut, switch to the toolbar method instead.

3. Apply italic from the floating toolbar

Feature entry: Select content → right-click → floating toolbar

  1. Select the text inside the cell that you want to format.
  2. Right-click the selected text.
  3. Click the Italic option on the floating toolbar.
  4. Check whether the text now shows the italic effect.

Success Criteria

  • The floating toolbar appears after right-clicking.
  • Clicking the Italic option changes the selected text style.
  • You can finish the action without switching to the top ribbon.

Tips While Using

  • The floating toolbar is especially useful for partial text formatting.
  • If the floating toolbar does not appear, use the top toolbar or shortcut key instead.

4. Apply italic through Format Cells

Feature entry: Right-click → Format Cells

  1. Select the target cell range.
  2. Right-click and choose Format Cells, or press Ctrl + 1.
  3. In the relevant font or text settings area, choose the italic style.
  4. Click OK to apply the setting.

Success Criteria

  • The Format Cells window opens successfully.
  • After confirmation, the target cell text appears in italic.
  • The formatting remains applied to the current cell range.

Tips While Using

  • This method is useful when you want to adjust italic together with other font settings.
  • For quick toggling, the toolbar or shortcut is usually more direct.
