1. Apply italic from the toolbar button

Feature entry: Home tab → Italic

  1. Select the cell you want to format, or select part of the text while editing the cell.
  2. Click the italic I button in the font area on the Home tab.
  3. The selected text changes to italic immediately.
  4. Click the same button again to remove italic.

Success Criteria

  • The selected text appears in a slanted style.
  • Clicking the button again returns the text to normal style.
  • Existing cell content remains intact.

Tips While Using

  • If you only want to format part of the text, enter cell edit mode before selecting the text.
  • Some Chinese fonts may show only a subtle italic effect.

2. Use the keyboard shortcut for italic

Feature entry: keyboard shortcut Command + I

  1. Select the target cell, or select part of the text inside the cell.
  2. Press Command + I.
  3. The selected text is formatted in italic.
  4. Press Command + I again to remove italic.

Success Criteria

  • The selected text switches to italic after the shortcut is used.
  • Running the shortcut again removes the italic state.
  • Other unselected text in the cell is not affected.

Tips While Using

  • Make sure the current focus is inside the WPS Sheets window.
  • If the shortcut does not work, check whether the same key combination is being used by macOS or another app.

3. Apply italic from the floating toolbar

Feature entry: select text, then right-click to open the floating toolbar

  1. Select the text you want to adjust inside the cell.
  2. Right-click the selected content.
  3. Click the italic option in the floating toolbar.
  4. The text switches to italic immediately.

Success Criteria

  • The floating toolbar appears after right-clicking.
  • Clicking the italic option changes the selected text style.
  • You can continue adjusting other text formatting options.

Tips While Using

  • The floating toolbar is easier to access after text has already been selected.
  • If you do not see the option, use the Home tab or the shortcut instead.

4. Apply italic through Format Cells

Feature entry: right-click → Format CellsFont

  1. Select the target cell or cell range.
  2. Right-click and choose Format Cells, or press Command + 1 to open the related settings.
  3. Choose an italic style in the font settings.
  4. Click OK to apply the change.

Success Criteria

  • The settings window shows font style options.
  • After confirmation, the selected cell text appears in italic.
  • Multiple selected cells use the same style consistently.

Tips While Using

  • This method is more suitable when you want to standardize text style across multiple cells.
  • If the current font does not support a clear italic effect, the visual change may be limited.
