Entry path: Select cells → Right-click menu → Insert

- No unwanted change: Other unselected areas are not turned into full inserted rows or columns.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you select a full row or column by mistake, you may insert a row or column instead of cells.
- Data check: After insertion, confirm that nearby data moved in the expected direction.

2. Insert cells from the toolbar
Entry path: Select cells → Insert tab → Cells drop-down menu
- Select the target cell in the worksheet.
- Click the Insert tab at the top of the window.
- Open the Cells drop-down menu.
- Choose the insertion method you need:
- Insert cells, shift active cells right.
- Insert cells, shift active cells down.
- Confirm that worksheet data moved in the selected direction.
