Entry point: View → Highlight Rows and Columns

  1. Open WPS Sheets and go to the worksheet that you want to review.
  2. Click the View tab at the top.
  3. Find the Highlight Rows and Columns toggle on the toolbar.
  4. Click it once to turn the feature on, and click it again to turn it off.
  5. Select any cell and check whether its row and column are highlighted.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: After you select a cell, its row and column are highlighted.
  • Next actions: You can continue selecting other cells, and the highlight position updates with the selection.
  • No side effects: The feature does not change the data in the cells.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you only switch to the worksheet without clicking the toggle, no highlight effect appears.
  • Environment limits: You need to be in a viewable or editable spreadsheet interface.

2. Switch Highlight Rows and Columns from the bottom status bar

Entry point: Bottom status bar → Highlight Rows and Columns

  1. Open WPS Sheets and look at the bottom status bar of the worksheet window.
  2. Find the Highlight Rows and Columns toggle.
  3. Click the toggle to enable the feature.
  4. Click it again to disable the feature.
  5. Select any cell and confirm that the row and column highlight appears or disappears.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: After you switch the status bar toggle, the highlight effect in the sheet changes accordingly.
  • Next actions: You can control the display state quickly without switching to another tab.
  • No side effects: The feature does not affect the original formatting or data in the sheet.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you cannot find the entry in the bottom status bar, widen the window first or use the View tab entry instead.
  • Environment limits: You need to work in the main spreadsheet editing window.

3. Customize the Highlight Rows and Columns color

Entry point: View → Highlight Rows and Columns drop-down arrow → Custom color

  1. Click the View tab at the top.
  2. Find the drop-down arrow next to Highlight Rows and Columns.
  3. Select the custom color option.
  4. Choose the display color that you want to use.
  5. Return to the worksheet, select a cell, and check whether the new highlight color is applied.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Highlight Rows and Columns appears in the newly selected color.
  • Next actions: You can keep the current color or switch to another one later.
  • No side effects: This changes only the display effect and does not change the cell fill color itself.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: Do not confuse the cell’s own fill color with the row-and-column highlight effect, because they serve different purposes.
  • Environment limits: Choose a color with clear contrast against the current sheet background for easier viewing.
