1. Turn on Fill from the Tools menu

Entry point: Tools > Home > Fill

  1. Select the cell range you want to fill, and make sure the source data is at the top of the range.
  2. Tap the Tools tab.
  3. Tap Home.
  4. Find and tap Fill.
  5. Check whether arrows appear to the right and below the source cell.
  6. Tap another area of the sheet to exit Fill mode.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Fill arrows appear to the right and below the source cell.
  • Next actions: You can continue with Fill Down or Fill Right.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you do not select the source cell or range first, Fill may not enter the expected state.
  • Environment limits: You need to work in an editable spreadsheet area.

2. Turn on Fill from the floating menu

Entry point: Floating menu bar > Fill

  1. Tap the cell or cell range you want to fill.
  2. Wait for the floating menu bar to appear.
  3. Find and tap Fill in the floating menu.
  4. Check whether arrows appear to the right and below the source cell.
  5. Tap another area of the sheet to exit Fill mode.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: Fill is available in the floating menu, and fill arrows appear after you enter the mode.
  • Next actions: You can drag the arrows to complete the fill action.

  • Common mistakes: If the floating menu does not appear correctly, you may not see the Fill entry point.

3. Drag down or right to fill cells

Entry point: Drag the arrows after entering Fill mode

  1. Turn on Fill from Tools or the floating menu.
  2. Confirm that arrows appear to the right and below the source cell.
  3. Drag the arrow downward to fill cells below.
  4. Drag the arrow to the right to fill cells on the right.
  5. If the source data follows a pattern, check whether the target range continues that pattern automatically.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The target range shows the filled content.
  • Next actions: You can adjust the range further or tap elsewhere to finish.
  • No side effects: The original source cell remains unchanged.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you do not review the target range first, existing data may be overwritten.
  • Environment limits: In a filtered sheet, only visible cells are filled.

4. Use Copy Fill

Entry point: Top of the fill action area > Copy Fill

  1. Complete one drag-based fill action first.
  2. Check whether the Copy Fill button appears at the top of the fill action area.
  3. Tap Copy Fill.
  4. Confirm that the target range copies the original value instead of continuing a number or date pattern.

Success Criteria

  • UI state: The Copy Fill button appears and can be selected.
  • Next actions: The target range is filled with copied values only.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistakes: If you do not distinguish sequence fill from Copy Fill, the result may differ from what you expect.
  • Environment limits: This button appears only after you perform a drag-based fill action.
