How-to Index

How-to Guide

1. Set Data Validation

Entry path: Tools at the bottom → Data tab → Data Validation

  1. Select the cell or range where you want to add data validation.
  2. Tap Tools at the bottom of the screen and open the Data tab.
  3. Tap Data Validation.
  4. Choose a rule type from Any Value, Integer, Decimal, List, Date, Time, Text Length, or Custom.
  5. Set the specific condition for the selected rule type.
  6. Tap OK to apply the data validation rule to the current cell or range.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: When you open Data Validation again for the same selection, the current rule is shown.
  • What you can do next: The selected cells will check new input against the rule.
  • No unwanted side effects: Other unselected areas are not changed at the same time.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not select the target cell or range first, the rule may be applied to the wrong place.
  • Environment note: The file must be editable. Protected or read-only files may prevent rule changes.
  • Validation behavior: If entered content does not match the rule, a pop-up prompt appears.

2. Clear Data Validation

Entry path: Tools at the bottom → Data tab → Data Validation

  1. Select the cell or range where you want to remove data validation.
  2. Tap Tools at the bottom of the screen and open the Data tab.
  3. Tap Data Validation.
  4. Tap Clear All at the bottom.
  5. Return to the spreadsheet and continue editing the target area.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The selected area no longer keeps the previous data validation restriction.
  • What you can do next: You can enter content that was previously restricted by the rule.
  • No unwanted side effects: Only the rules in the current selection are removed.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the selected range is too large, rules across the whole area may be removed at once.
  • Environment note: You need edit permission for the current file.
  • Recommendation: Check the selected range before clearing rules so you do not remove restrictions from other cells by mistake.
