How-to Guide

1. Apply Preset Borders Quickly

Entry: Home tab → Borders button

  1. Select the cell range where you want to add borders.
  2. Click the Borders drop-down arrow on the Home tab.
  3. Choose a preset such as All Borders, Outside Borders, or Inside Borders.
  4. Check the selected range and confirm that the border effect has been applied.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The selected range shows the border style you chose.
  • What you can do next: You can continue editing cell content or switch to another border style.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not select a cell range first, the border may not be applied to the intended area.
  • Environment note: In collaborative mode, if multiple people adjust formatting at the same time, confirm the final style before standardizing it.

2. Customize Border Styles

Entry: Right-click → Format Cells → Border

  1. Select the target cell range and right-click it.
  2. Choose Format Cells to open the panel on the right.
  3. Switch to the Border area in the cell-format settings.
  4. Choose the line style, color, and thickness in the Line section.
  5. Use the preset area for an overall layout, or click specific border positions in the diagram to control individual sides.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The target range shows the selected line style, color, and thickness.
  • What you can do next: You can fine-tune one side further or return to the sheet and continue editing data.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you set a line style but do not choose a border position in the preset area or diagram, you may not see a visible change.
  • Environment note: Different ranges can use different border styles, so it helps to confirm a formatting standard first.

3. Remove Borders

Entry: Home tab → Borders button

  1. Select the cell range where you want to clear borders.
  2. Open the Borders drop-down menu on the Home tab.
  3. Choose No Border to clear all borders in the current range.
  4. If you only want to remove one side, choose the corresponding single-side clear option.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: All or part of the borders in the target range are removed.
  • What you can do next: You can apply a new border style or keep the simplified layout.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you only want to remove one side, make sure you do not choose No Border by mistake, or the whole border set will be cleared.
  • Environment note: Before printing, check whether the remaining borders match your output needs.
