1. Turn on Auto Hide Content from the right-click menu

Feature entry: Select a cell range → right-click menu → Turn on Auto Hide Content

  1. Select the cell range whose content you want to hide.
  2. Right-click anywhere inside the selected range.
  3. Click Turn on Auto Hide Content in the context menu.
  4. After it is enabled, the content in that range is displayed as .
  5. The document owner, fillers, and designated users can still view the hidden content.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The original values in the selected range no longer display directly and appear as .
  • Next action available: You can continue configuring permissions or collaboration settings for the range.

Tips While Using

  • This feature is used in collaboration mode.
  • Hidden display does not delete the data. You can restore normal display later.

2. Open Auto Hide Content from the Collaboration tab

  1. Open the collaborative spreadsheet that you want to configure.
  2. Click the Collaboration tab at the top of the window.
  3. Click Protected Range on the toolbar.
  4. Select Auto Hide Content from the drop-down menu.
  5. Complete the protected range and hidden-content settings in the side panel.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: A protected range settings panel appears on the right side.
  • Next action available: You can continue setting the hidden range and related permissions in the panel.

Tips While Using

  • If the file is not in collaborative mode, the related entry may not appear.
  • It is helpful to confirm the target range before applying the setting.

3. Set viewing permissions and turn off hidden content

Feature entry: Click a hidden cell → left-side drop-down menu with the shield icon

  1. Click a cell where Auto Hide Content is already enabled.
  2. Open the left-side drop-down menu with the shield icon.
  3. Set Ignore first N rows if you want header rows to remain visible.
  4. Set Designated persons to manage hidden content to choose who can view the hidden data.
  5. If you want to restore normal display, select Turn off Auto Hide Content.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The ignored rows, designated viewers, or hidden-state changes take effect.
  • Next action available: You can continue adjusting the authorized list or restore normal display for the range.

Tips While Using

  • Ignore first N rows is useful when field names should remain visible.
  • Before assigning viewers, confirm collaborator identity and access scope.
