1. Check the current document word count

Entry: Tools → Review → Word Count

  1. Open the document you want to review.
  2. Tap Tools at the bottom.
  3. Select the Review tab.
  4. Tap Word Count.
  5. In the statistics panel, review the following items: words, characters with spaces, characters without spaces, non-Chinese words, and Chinese words.

Success Criteria

  • What you should see: the Word Count panel opens.
  • What you can do next: return to editing or adjust the document based on the statistics.

Tips While Using

  • The results reflect the current state of the document and change after edits.
  • Punctuation is usually included in total character count, but not usually counted as words.

2. Turn live word count display on or off

Entry: Tools → Review → Word Count → Show Word Count in Real-time

  1. Open a document and tap Tools at the bottom.
  2. Go to the Review tab.
  3. Tap Word Count.
  4. Select or clear Show Word Count in Real-time.
  5. Return to the editing area and check whether the word count entry in the lower-left corner is now shown or hidden.

Success Criteria

  • What you should see: the quick entry in the editing area changes state.
  • What you can do next: keep the entry visible during editing or hide it when you do not need it.

Tips While Using

  • The quick entry appears in the lower-left area of the editing screen.
  • If the entry does not change, reopen the Word Count panel and confirm the setting.
