How-to Guide
1. Show or Hide the Ruler
Feature entry: View → Ruler
- Open the WPS Writer document that you want to edit.
- Click Ruler on the View tab.
- The ruler appears above the editing area.
- Click Ruler again to hide it.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: A horizontal ruler appears above the editing area or is hidden from it.
- You can continue: You can keep using the ruler for indents or tab stop settings.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you are not in a WPS Writer document, the related entry may not be visible.
2. Use the Ruler to Adjust Indents
Feature entry: Horizontal ruler → Indent markers
- Select the paragraph that you want to format.
- Find the indent markers on the horizontal ruler.
- Drag the upper triangle to set the first-line indent.
- Drag the lower rectangle to set the left indent.
- Drag the right-side triangle to set the right indent.
- Release the mouse to apply the change.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The selected paragraph changes its first-line, left, or right position.
- You can continue: You can keep editing text with the current indent settings preserved.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If no paragraph is selected first, the result may not match what you expect.
3. Use the Ruler to Set Tab Stops
Feature entry: Horizontal ruler → Set Tab Stops
- Click the tab stop type button on the left side of the ruler.
- Select Set Tab Stops.
- Change the default tab stop character or add a custom tab stop.
- Click OK to apply the setting.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The tab stop setting takes effect and text aligns to the updated tab positions.
- You can continue: You can keep typing in the document with the new tab stop rules.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you close the window before confirming, the current change may not be saved.
