How-to Guide
1. Insert a Bookmark
Entry point:
- Insert tab → Bookmark
- Home tab → Insert → Bookmark
- Right-click menu in the editing area → Insert Bookmark
- Place the cursor where you want to mark the document.
- Open the Bookmark entry.
- Enter a bookmark name.
- Make sure the bookmark name does not start with a number and does not contain spaces.
- Choose whether to show bookmark markers.
- Click OK to finish creating the bookmark.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The bookmark appears in the bookmark list.
- Next actions: You can continue to go to, delete, or manage marker display for the bookmark.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If the bookmark name starts with a number or contains spaces, the bookmark cannot be created as required.
- Naming tip: Use a clear name with letters, numbers, or underscores so the bookmark is easier to identify later.
2. Go to a Bookmark
Entry point: Insert tab → Bookmark → Select bookmark → Go to
- Click Bookmark on the Insert tab.
- Select the target bookmark from the bookmark list.
- Click the Go to button.
- The cursor jumps to the bookmarked location.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The cursor moves to the target bookmark location.
- Next actions: You can continue editing, reviewing, or inserting content at that location.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If you do not select a target bookmark first, you cannot go to it directly.
3. Delete a Bookmark
Entry point: Insert tab → Bookmark → Select bookmark → Delete
- Open the Bookmark dialog box.
- Select the bookmark you want to remove from the list.
- Click the Delete button.
- The bookmark is removed, while the document text stays unchanged.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The target bookmark no longer appears in the bookmark list.
- Next actions: The document can still be edited and saved normally.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: Deleting a bookmark does not delete the text at that location.
4. Show or Hide Bookmark Markers
Entry point: Insert tab → Bookmark
- Open the Bookmark feature.
- Find the option for showing bookmark markers.
- Turn the option on or off as needed.

- UI state: Bookmark markers in the document are shown or hidden based on the current setting.
- Next actions: You can continue inserting, going to, or deleting bookmarks.
Tips While Using
