1. Add Numbered Lists

Entry: Home tab → Numbering area

  1. Select the text you want to format as a list.
  2. Tap the Home tab.
  3. In the Bullets area, choose the numbering style you want.
  4. If you need more styles, tap the three-dot icon on the right.

  • The selected text appears as a numbered list.
  • The list items follow the selected style.

2. Promote Numbering

Entry: Home tab → Promote Numbering

  1. Select the numbered item you want to promote.
  2. Tap Tools.
  3. Tap the Home tab.

  • The numbering reflects the higher-level structure.

3. Demote Numbering

Entry: Tools → Home tab → Demote Numbering

  • The current list item moves to a lower level.
  • The numbering style changes with the new level.

  • This is useful when the current item should become a child item under the previous level.

4. Restart Numbering

Entry: Tools → Home tab → Restart Numbering

  1. Select the numbered item.
  2. Tap Tools.
  3. Tap the Home tab.
  4. Tap Restart Numbering.

Success Criteria

  • The current list starts again from a new numbering point.
  • Following items continue in the new sequence.

Tips While Using

  • This is helpful after inserting new paragraphs or splitting a list into sections.

5. Continue Previous Numbering

Entry: Tools → Home tab → Continue Previous Numbering

  1. Select the numbered item.
  2. Tap Tools.
  3. Tap the Home tab.
  4. Tap Continue Previous Numbering.

  • The current list continues the earlier numbering sequence.
  • Numbering does not restart from the beginning.

  • This is useful when normal paragraphs appear between two parts of the same list.

6. Use Automatic Numbering

Entry: Tools → Home tab → Automatic Numbering toggle

  1. Select the numbered item.
  2. Tap Tools.
  3. Tap the Home tab.
  4. Turn on Automatic Numbering.

Success Criteria

  • The next item can continue numbering while you type.
  • List editing becomes more continuous.

Tips While Using

  • If numbering does not continue after a line break, check whether this toggle is on.

7. Remove Bullets or Numbering

Entry: Tools → Home tab → Numbering area

  1. Select the paragraph that already has bullets or numbering.
  2. Tap Tools.
  3. Tap the Home tab.
  4. Tap the remove icon in the Numbering area.

Success Criteria

  • The target paragraph returns to plain text.
  • The previous bullets or numbering no longer appear.

Tips While Using

  • Bullets and numbering cannot be applied to the same paragraph at the same time.
