1. Insert a shape from the Insert tab
Entry point: Insert tab → Shape
- Click the Insert tab at the top.
- Click Shape to open the shape library.
- Select the shape type you need, such as lines, rectangles, basic shapes, block arrows, flowchart shapes, callouts, or stars and banners.
- Click the shape you want to insert it into the current slide.
- Drag on the slide to draw the shape.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The selected shape appears on the current slide.
- Next actions: You can continue moving, resizing, or styling the shape.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If you only click the shape but do not drag on the slide, the size may not match what you expect.
- Environment limits: Open an editable presentation before starting.
2. Insert a shape from the Home tab
Entry point: Home tab → Shape
- Click the Home tab at the top.
- Click Shape to open the shape library.
- Select the shape you want to insert.
- After selecting the shape, drag on the slide to complete the drawing.

- UI state: The shape is inserted on the current slide.
- Next actions: You can continue adjusting its size, position, and style.

3. Draw a regular shape
Entry point: Select any shape and drag on the slide to draw
- First, choose a shape from the shape library.
- Move the pointer to the slide editing area.
- Hold down the left mouse button and drag to draw the shape.
- To draw a square, perfect circle, or another regular shape, hold Shift while dragging.
- Release the mouse to finish drawing.
Success Criteria
- UI state: A completed shape object appears on the slide.
- Next actions: You can select the object and continue editing it.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If you do not hold Shift, the shape may be drawn with a free proportion.
4. Set shape styles
Entry point: Right-click menu on the shape → Set Object Format; or the side Properties button
- Select the inserted shape.
- Right-click the shape and choose Set Object Format, or click the side Properties button.
- Adjust the shape style in the Object Properties side panel.
- Set options such as fill, outline, or stacking order as needed.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The object properties area opens on the right, and style changes take effect immediately.
