1. Basic Merge Calculation Workflow

Feature entry: Data tab → Merge Calculation

  1. Create a new blank worksheet, or leave a blank area in the current worksheet for the result.
  2. Click the starting cell for the result area and make sure the target range is blank so existing content is not covered.
  3. Click Merge Calculation on the Data tab.
  4. In the dialog box, choose the function you need, such as Sum, Average, Count, Max, or Min.
  5. Place the cursor in the Reference box, switch to a source sheet, select the data range, and click Add.
  6. Repeat the same action to add other ranges that should be included in the summary.
  7. If the data includes headers or row labels, select Top row and Left column.
  8. Click OK to generate the merged calculation result in the target area.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: A new summary result appears in the target area.
  • Next action available: You can review the result, adjust formatting, or run the feature again.
  • No side effects: The original source ranges remain unchanged.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the target area does not have enough blank space, existing content may become harder to review.
  • Environment note: If the source ranges have very different structures, label matching in the result may not align as expected.
  • Suggestion: Keep category labels consistent across source ranges for more accurate summaries.
