1. Set Superscript
Entry path: Tools → Home → Superscript
- Open the Writer document that you want to edit.
- Select the text that you want to format as superscript.
- Tap Tools at the bottom or side of the screen.
- Open the Home tab.
- Tap Superscript, shown with an “x²” style icon.
- Check whether the selected text now appears as superscript.
Success Criteria
- On-screen result: the selected text appears above the normal text baseline.
- What you can do next: continue typing, save the file, or apply other formatting.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if you do not select text first, the formatting may not apply to the intended content.
- Environment note: make sure the document is already in editing mode.
2. Set Subscript
Entry path: Tools → Home → More next to Superscript → Subscript
- Open the Writer document that you want to edit.
- Select the text that you want to format as subscript.
- Tap Tools.
- Open the Home tab.
- Tap the … more icon next to the superscript button.
- Tap Subscript, shown with an “x₂” style icon.
- Check whether the selected text now appears as subscript.
Success Criteria

- What you can do next: continue editing formulas, chemical notation, or save the document.
