1. Insert an Image Content Control

Entry point: Developer → Image Content Control

  1. Open WPS Writer and the target document.
  2. Make sure Design Mode is enabled.
  3. Place the cursor where you want to insert the image area.
  4. Click Image Content Control.
  5. The control is inserted at the current position in the document.

Success Criteria

  • An image placeholder control appears in the document.
  • You can continue editing the template or switch to normal use.

Tips While Using

  • Confirm the cursor position before insertion so the control appears in the correct paragraph.
  • If you do not see the button, first check whether the Developer tab is visible.

2. Insert an Image into the Control

Entry point: Click the Image Content Control area

  1. After inserting the control, leave Design Mode.
  2. Click the image content control area in the document.
  3. In the file selection window, choose the image file you want to insert.
  4. Confirm the selection, and the image is inserted into the control.

Success Criteria

  • The selected image appears inside the control area.
  • The document layout stays close to the intended position.

Tips While Using

  • Prepare a clear image file with a suitable size in advance.
  • Common image formats such as JPG, PNG, and BMP are generally suitable for this workflow.

3. Handle a Pre-inserted Image That Cannot Be Deleted

Entry point: Developer → Design Mode → Check control properties

  1. If an existing image in the document cannot be deleted directly, first enter Design Mode.
  2. Select the related image content control.
  3. Check whether the control is set with restrictions such as preventing control deletion or content editing.
  4. Clear the relevant restriction, then delete or replace the image again.

Success Criteria

  • The image that could not be handled before becomes editable or removable.
  • After adjusting the control properties, the template can be maintained normally.

Tips While Using

  • Before changing properties, confirm whether the control still needs to be kept.
  • If the document is distributed as a standard template, you can reapply restrictions afterward.

4. Delete an Image from the Control

Entry point: Select the image → Delete key or right-click delete

  1. In normal mode, select the image inside the control.
  2. Press the Delete key, or right-click and choose delete.
  3. Check whether the control area is now empty.
  4. If needed, insert a new image again.

Success Criteria

  • The image is removed from the control.
  • The control area remains available for another image.

Tips While Using

  • If deletion does not work, return to the previous section and check the control restrictions.
  • Save a copy of the document before deletion if you may need to roll back.
