How-to Guide
1. Automatic wrapping (auto-adjust row height)
Entry: Home → Wrap Text
- Select the cell that you want to format.
- Click Wrap Text on the Home tab.
- The text in the cell will wrap automatically based on the current column width.
- If needed, open the drop-down menu on the right and choose Overflow, Wrap, or Clip.
Success Criteria
- Long text in the selected cell appears on multiple lines, or updates to the selected display mode.
- If you change the column width, the wrapping result changes with it.
Tips While Using
- Automatic wrapping depends on column width, so the display result changes when the column width changes.
- If the content still does not look complete, check the row height or the display state of the selected cell area.
2. Manual line break (forced line break)
Entry: Double-click a cell to enter edit mode
- Double-click the target cell to enter editing mode.
- Place the cursor where you want the line break.
- Press Alt + Enter.
- Continue typing or confirm the content after the line break is inserted.
Success Criteria
- The text breaks into two or more lines at the cursor position.
- The line break remains in place when you edit the cell again later.
Tips While Using
- Manual line breaks are useful when you want a fixed break position.
- Manual line breaks and automatic wrapping can exist together, and the final display still depends on column width.
3. Apply automatic wrapping to multiple cells
Entry: Home → Wrap Text
- Select the range of cells that you want to format together.
- Click Wrap Text on the Home tab.
- Apply the same automatic wrapping setting to the selected range.
- Adjust column width if needed and review the overall layout.
Success Criteria
- Multiple cells in the selected range use the same wrapping display behavior.
- The spreadsheet layout looks more organized and long text no longer spills out randomly.
Tips While Using
- Before applying the setting in bulk, confirm the target range so you do not affect unrelated cells.
- If the sheet contains text of different lengths, adjust column width together with wrapping for a clearer result.
