How-to Guide
1. Apply Strikethrough
Entry point: Home tab → Strikethrough button
- Select the cell content or text that you want to format.
- Click the dialog box launcher in the lower-right corner of the Font group on the Home tab.
- Open the Font tab and select Strikethrough in the effects area.
- Click OK to apply the setting.
- For a faster workflow, you can also use
Command + 5after selecting the content.
Success Criteria
- UI state: A horizontal line appears through the middle of the selected cell content or text.
- Next actions: You can continue editing, copying, saving, or combining it with other formatting.
- No side effects: The original text remains in place and only the display style changes.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If you do not select the target content first, strikethrough may not be applied where you expect.
- Environment limits: If the spreadsheet is read-only, formatting changes may not be available.
2. Remove Strikethrough
Entry point: Home tab → Strikethrough button
- Select the cell content or text that already has strikethrough.
- Click the Home tab.
- Click the Strikethrough button again, or open the Font tab and clear the Strikethrough option.
- The strikethrough formatting is removed.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The horizontal line disappears and the text returns to normal display.
- Next actions: You can continue with other font formatting or save the file.
- No side effects: The text itself is not deleted.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If only part of the text is selected, only that selected part will have strikethrough removed.
- Environment limits: In collaboration scenarios, other collaborators will see the change after sync completes.
