1. Use Format Painter Once

Entry: Home tab → Format Painter

  1. Select the cell or range that already has the formatting you want to copy.
  2. Click Format Painter on the Home tab.
  3. When the pointer changes to a brush, drag across the target range where you want to apply the formatting.
  4. Release the mouse to apply the formatting. The tool exits automatically after one use.

  • Interface result: The target range shows the same font, color, border, and related formatting as the source range.
  • What you can do next: You can continue editing the target range or perform other spreadsheet actions.
  • No side effects: Existing content and formulas in the target range are not replaced.

2. Use Format Painter Continuously

Entry: Home tab → Format Painter

  4. When finished, press ESC or click Format Painter again to exit continuous mode.
