This FAQ covers 3 common questions about collaboration, batch updates, and invalid input handling, plus a short glossary.
FAQ
Do data validity rules apply to all collaborators in a shared file?
- Data validity rules are saved in the current spreadsheet file.
- Other collaborators editing the same file are also affected by the same rules.
- If you want consistent entry standards, configure the rules before sharing the file.
How do I batch update an existing data validity source or condition?
- Select the cell range that already has data validity applied.
- Open the Data Validity dialog box and edit the source or condition.
- Select Apply these changes to all other cells with the same settings, then save to update them in batch.
What happens if someone enters data that does not match the rule?
- When entered content does not match the configured rule, an error alert is triggered.
- The alert style and message can be configured on the Error Alert tab.
- To reduce incorrect entries, add both an input message and a clearer alert description.
