How-to Guide

1. Find the Calculation Options entry

Entry path: Formulas → Calculation Options

  1. Open the WPS Spreadsheet file that you want to configure.
  2. Click the Formulas tab at the top of the window.
  3. Find the Calculation Options button on the toolbar.
  4. Click the button to open the Calculation Options dialog.
  5. Review the Formula Calculation and Recalculation sections in the dialog.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The Calculation Options dialog opens.
  • Next action available: You can continue to set iterative calculation, displayed precision, and recalculation mode.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you are not working in a spreadsheet file, the related entry may not appear.
  • Environment note: This feature is used in WPS Spreadsheet, not in Writer or Presentation files.

2. Set formula calculation parameters

Entry path: Calculation Options dialog → Formula Calculation

  1. In the Calculation Options dialog, go to the Formula Calculation section.
  2. Select Iterative Calculation if you need formulas with circular references to calculate repeatedly.
  3. Set Maximum Iterations to control the maximum number of calculation loops.
  4. Set Maximum Change to control the stopping threshold for convergence.
  5. Select Calculate using displayed precision if later calculations should follow the displayed cell values.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The related checkboxes and numeric settings are configured as needed.
  • Next action available: You can continue to switch the recalculation mode and save the settings.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Turning on iterative calculation without adjusting iterations and maximum change may affect how quickly results converge.
  • Environment note: When displayed precision is used in later calculations, later results follow visible values rather than hidden decimals.

3. Switch the recalculation mode

Entry path: Calculation Options dialog → Recalculation

  1. In the Calculation Options dialog, go to the Recalculation section.
  2. Select Automatic Recalculation or Manual Recalculation.
  3. Confirm that the selected mode matches your editing workflow.
  4. Click OK in the lower-right corner to save the settings.
  5. Return to the worksheet and continue editing data or formulas.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The dialog closes and the new recalculation mode is saved.
  • Next action available: After editing cells, you can check whether formulas update automatically.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: After switching to manual recalculation, users may forget to recalculate and keep looking at old results.
  • Environment note: This setting affects how formulas update in the current document, so it is helpful to align with collaborators in advance.

4. Manually recalculate formulas

Entry path: Formulas → Recalculate; shortcuts F9 / Shift+F9

  1. First switch the document to Manual Recalculation mode.
  2. Edit the data or formulas that need to be updated.
  3. To recalculate all worksheets, click FormulasRecalculate, or press F9.
  4. To recalculate only the active worksheet, press Shift+F9.
  5. Check whether the formula results have updated to the latest state.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The related formula results refresh.
  • Next action available: You can continue editing, reviewing, or saving the file.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you only want to check the current worksheet, pressing F9 may trigger a broader recalculation than expected.
  • Environment note: Shortcut behavior can vary depending on keyboard mapping or macOS shortcut settings.
