How-to Guide
1. Apply border types
Entry: Tools at the bottom > Home tab > Borders area
- Select the cell range where you want to apply borders.
- Tap Tools at the bottom.
- Open the Home tab.
- In the Borders area, choose the border type you need.
- Apply an outside border, inside border, all borders, or a bold border style as needed.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The selected range shows the border style you chose.
- Next action available: You can continue changing colors, adjust other formatting, or save the file.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you do not select cells first, the border effect may not be applied as expected.
- Environment note: You need to work in an editable spreadsheet file.
2. Change border line color
Entry: Tools at the bottom > Home tab > color option below the Borders area
- Select the cell range where you want to change the border color.
- Tap Tools and open the Home tab.
- In the Borders area, choose a border type first.
- Tap the color option below the border controls.
- Select the border line color you want.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The selected range shows the chosen border color.
- Next action available: You can continue adjusting border types or save the spreadsheet.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If no border type is applied first, changing color may not produce an obvious visible result.
- Environment note: On some table backgrounds, light border colors may be harder to see.
3. Clear existing borders
Entry: Tools at the bottom > Home tab > Borders area
- Select the cell range that already has borders.
- Tap Tools at the bottom.
- Open the Home tab.
- Open the border type list in the Borders area.
- Select No Border to remove the current borders.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: Existing borders are removed from the selected range.
- Next action available: You can apply a new border style or continue editing the sheet.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If only part of the intended range is selected, only that selected area will be cleared.
