How-to Guide
1. Set Horizontal Alignment
Entry: Home → Alignment
- Select the cell or cell range you want to format.
- Open the Home tab.
- In the Alignment group, click the horizontal alignment option you need.
- Select left align, center, or right align.
Success Criteria
- The selected content appears on the left, center, or right side of each cell.
- The cell values stay unchanged after the formatting update.
Tips While Using
- Before applying alignment in bulk, confirm that the full target range is selected.
- Text and numbers may start with different default positions, so applying one setting can make the layout more consistent.
2. Set Vertical Alignment
Entry: Home → Alignment
- Select the target cell range.
- On the Home tab, use the vertical alignment controls in the Alignment group.
- Choose top align, middle align, or bottom align based on the cell height and content length.
- For taller cells, middle alignment often creates a more balanced appearance.
Success Criteria
- Content appears at the top, middle, or bottom of the selected cells.
- The row layout looks more consistent after the change.
Tips While Using
- Vertical alignment is easier to notice when row height is larger.
- If you want content centered in both directions, combine vertical middle alignment with horizontal center alignment.
3. Open More Alignment Settings
Entry: Right-click the selected range → Format Cells
- Select the target cell range and right-click it.
- Choose Format Cells to open the settings panel.
- Open the text-related settings area.
- Under Horizontal alignment, choose left, center, right, justify, distributed, fill, or span-style alignment.
- Under Vertical alignment, choose top, middle, bottom, justify, or distributed alignment.
- If needed, adjust the indent value to refine text placement.
- Review the display result in the sheet and continue editing to apply the setting.
Success Criteria
- The selected range reflects the alignment options chosen in the settings panel.
- Content placement and indent behavior match the intended layout.
Tips While Using
- Fill and span-style alignment are more suitable for specific layout cases, so testing them on a smaller range first can help.
- Merged cells can also affect how alignment appears.
