Last updated:July 20, 2026

Common questions about copy, paste, and cut usually involve selection, overwriting, and move results; this FAQ includes 4 questions and a 4-term glossary.

FAQ

Why do I not see Copy or Cut after pressing and holding a cell?

  1. Make sure the file is already in spreadsheet editing mode.
  2. Press and hold the cell again instead of tapping it briefly.
  3. If the menu still does not appear, reselect the cell and try again.

Why did the original content disappear after I pasted?

  1. Check whether the destination cell or range already contained data.
  2. Paste places the copied or cut content into the target location and may overwrite existing content.
  3. If you want to keep the original data, paste into a blank area first.

What is the difference between Cut and Copy?

  1. Copy keeps the original cell content and prepares it for pasting elsewhere.
  2. Cut is used to move content, so the original location changes after you paste.
  3. Use Cut when you need to move data and Copy when you need to reuse data.

How do I copy a range that is larger than the current screen?

  1. Press and hold the starting cell, then drag the selection handles to expand the range.
  2. Continue adjusting the selection up, down, left, or right as needed.
  3. After confirming the range, tap Copy.
