How-to Guide

1. Create a Date Field

Entry: the + button on the right side of the header → Date field

  1. Open the smart table you want to edit.
  2. Click the + button on the right side of the header.
  3. In the field type list, select Date.
  4. Enter the field name.
  5. Click OK to finish.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: a new date field column appears in the table.
  • What you can do next: open field settings to adjust the date format or default value.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if you choose another field type instead of Date, the new column will behave differently.
  • Environment note: you need edit access to the current table.

2. Set the Date Format

Entry: right-click the field title → Field Settings → date format area

  1. Right-click the date field title in the table.
  2. Select Field Settings.
  3. In the Date Format area, turn on Show Weekday if needed.
  4. Turn on Show Time if needed.
  5. Close the settings panel or continue with other field settings.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: dates display according to the selected format, such as date only, date with weekday, or date with time.
  • What you can do next: enter dates and view them with the current display format.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: editing a cell value alone does not change the display format for the whole column.
  • Environment note: when time display is enabled, you need to enter hour and minute details as needed.

3. Set a Default Value

Entry: right-click the field title → Field SettingsDefault Value

  1. Right-click the date field title.
  2. Select Field Settings.
  3. Find the Default Value option.
  4. Choose None, Specified Date, or The Date This Record Is Added.
  5. If you choose Specified Date, select the target date and save the setting.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: when a new record is added, the date field is auto-filled according to the current default rule or stays blank.
  • What you can do next: add a new record to verify the default value behavior.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: default values affect new records only and do not rewrite existing records automatically.
  • Environment note: if you need a fixed date, make sure you choose Specified Date instead of The Date This Record Is Added.

4. Enter a Date

Entry: target cell → date picker

  1. Click the target cell in the date field.
  2. In the date picker, select the date you want.
  3. If Show Time is enabled for the field, continue to set the exact time with the available time control.
  4. Confirm the selection and return to the table.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: the cell shows the selected date and, when applicable, the selected time.
  • What you can do next: continue editing other records or adjust field settings.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if time display is not enabled, the cell shows only the date portion.
  • Environment note: the final display style depends on the current field format settings.
