How-to Guide
1. Set a heading from the format menu
Entry point: Select text → floating toolbar → heading style drop-down
- Select the paragraph text that you want to turn into a heading.
- In the floating toolbar, find the heading format drop-down menu.
- Select the heading level you need, from Heading 1 (H1) to Heading 6 (H6).
- Check whether the paragraph now displays the matching heading style.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The selected paragraph is shown in the chosen heading style.
- Next action available: The heading can be used for table-of-contents recognition and later formatting.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you only change font size instead of applying a heading style, the table of contents may not recognize the paragraph.
2. Set a heading from the ribbon
Entry point: Select text → top ribbon → heading style drop-down
- Select the paragraph text that you want to turn into a heading.
- In the ribbon at the top of the window, find the heading format drop-down menu.
- Select the heading level you want.
- Confirm that the paragraph style has updated.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The paragraph is displayed in the selected heading level.
- Next action available: You can continue assigning heading levels to other paragraphs.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the paragraph is not selected first, the heading style may not be applied to the intended content.
3. Set a heading from the paragraph handle
Entry point: Select a paragraph → paragraph handle icon → choose a heading level
- Select the paragraph text that you want to turn into a heading.
- Open the paragraph-handle action entry.
- Choose the target heading level from H1 to H6.
- Check whether the paragraph has switched to the matching heading style.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The paragraph style changes successfully.
- Next action available: You can continue adjusting other paragraph levels from the same entry.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If the full paragraph is not selected, only part of the text may appear to change.
4. Insert a heading with slash commands
Entry point: Document editing area → type / → choose a heading level
- Type / on a blank line in the document.
- In the command menu that appears, choose the heading level you need.
- You can also type /h1 through /h6 to create the matching heading directly.
- Enter the heading text and continue writing the document.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The current line becomes the selected heading level.
- Next action available: You can continue entering heading text and building the document structure.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: Slash commands are easier to use on an editable blank line. In an existing paragraph, press Enter first if needed.
