1. Turn on password protection for a spreadsheet

Entry path: Top-right menu → Document Encryption → Turn on the Password Encryption switch

  1. Open the spreadsheet file you want to protect.
  2. Tap the top-right menu icon.
  3. Select Document Encryption.
  4. Turn on the Password Encryption switch.
  5. In the pop-up panel, set the password options you need:
    • Open password: required before the file can be viewed.
    • Modify password: required before the file can be edited.
  6. Tap OK to save the settings.

Expected Result

  • The encryption settings are saved for the document.
  • The file will require password verification for opening or editing based on the rules you set.

Notes

  • Keep the password in a secure place. If it is forgotten, it cannot be recovered.
  • You can set both password types if you want separate controls for viewing and editing.

2. Manage existing document encryption settings

Entry path: Top-right menu → Document Encryption → Manage password settings

  1. Open a spreadsheet file that already has encryption settings.
  2. Tap the top-right menu icon.
  3. Select Document Encryption.
  4. In the encryption panel, turn off Set Open Password or Set Modify Password as needed.
  5. Tap Done to save the updated settings.

Expected Result

  • The selected password restrictions are updated.
  • The document will follow the new opening or editing verification rules.

Notes

  • Review the file sharing scope before removing a password restriction.
  • If you share the file with others, send the password through a secure channel.
