This section includes 2 how-to topics, both available without membership, so you can jump from the index to the exact tracing task you need.

|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1. Track referenced cells | Free |
| 2 | 2. Remove tracer arrows | Free |
How-to Guide
1. Track referenced cells
Entry: Formulas → Track Referenced Cells
- Select a cell that contains a formula.
- Click Track Referenced Cells on the Formulas tab.
- Review the arrows that appear to show the reference relationship.
- Identify the arrow type: a blue solid arrow shows a reference within the current worksheet, and a black dashed arrow shows a cross-worksheet reference.
- If you need to inspect deeper reference levels, click Track Referenced Cells again.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: tracer arrows appear for the selected formula cell.
- Next action available: you can continue tracing or inspect the referenced path further.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: if the selected cell does not contain a formula, the command may not work as expected.
- Environment note: cross-worksheet references are shown with black dashed arrows, so you may need to check the target worksheet as well.
2. Remove tracer arrows
Entry: Formulas → Remove Arrows drop-down
- Click the drop-down arrow next to Remove Arrows on the Formulas tab.
- Select Remove Precedent Arrows to remove precedent tracing.
- Select Remove Dependent Arrows to remove dependent tracing.
- Select Remove All Arrows to clear all tracer marks at once.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: the corresponding tracer arrows are removed from the worksheet.
- Next action available: you can run Track Referenced Cells again to inspect a new reference path.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: when many arrows overlap, it is often easier to remove all arrows first and then trace again.
