1. Enter CONCATENATE from the Insert Function dialog

Entry path: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Click the fx button in the formula bar, or click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  3. Search for CONCATENATE in the dialog box.
  4. Select the function and click OK.
  5. Enter each parameter in the Function Arguments dialog.
  6. Click OK to finish entering the formula.

Success Criteria

  • The selected cell now contains the CONCATENATE function.
  • The full formula is visible in the formula bar.
  • The cell returns a joined result after you confirm the parameters.

Tips While Using

  • Use the standard function name when searching to avoid input errors.
  • Separate parameters with English commas.

2. Type the formula directly in a cell

Entry path: Cell → Formula bar

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Type =CONCATENATE(...) directly in the cell or in the formula bar.
  3. Press Enter to confirm.
  4. If you want to review the syntax, type =CONCATENATE( and press F1 to open the help prompt.

Success Criteria

  • The formula calculates normally and shows a result.
  • The full function expression remains visible in the formula bar.
  • No syntax error appears after you press Enter.

Tips While Using

  • Chinese punctuation can cause formula recognition errors.
  • When you copy the formula to other cells, check whether relative and absolute references behave as expected.

3. Review syntax and parameter details

Entry path: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  2. Type CONCATENATE in the search box.
  3. Select the function to review the syntax CONCATENATE(...).
  4. Click the help link for more details.
