1. Understand the Task Pane

Entry point: The Task Pane area on the left side of the PDF editing window

  1. Open a PDF file in WPS and enter the editing view.
  2. Look at the left side of the editing window.
  3. Confirm that the Task Pane appears as a collapsible sidebar.
  4. Check the title at the top to see the active tool name.
  5. Review the content area and available controls.
  6. Click the × button at the top to close the pane.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The Task Pane appears on the left side and shows the active tool name at the top.
  • Next action available: You can continue to Bookmarks, Thumbnails, Attachments, or Comments.

Tips While Using

  • Permissions or membership: Editing PDF files requires the relevant membership permission.

2. Switch Task Pane tools

Entry point: The icon area on the left side of the Task Pane

  1. Find the tool icons on the left side of the Task Pane.
  2. Click different icons to switch between tools.
  3. Switch to Bookmarks to manage document bookmarks.
  4. Switch to Thumbnails to preview all pages.
  5. Switch to Attachments to manage embedded files in the document.
  6. Switch to Comments to review all comments in the file.

  • Interface result: The title and content area update when you click a different icon.

  • Common mistake: Clicking only inside the content area does not switch tools; click the left-side icon instead.

3. Use bookmark tools

Entry point: The Bookmarks tool in the Task Pane

  1. Click the Bookmarks icon to open bookmark tools.
  2. Enter keywords in the search box to find bookmarks quickly.
  3. Click Add Bookmark to add a bookmark for the current page.
  4. Click Generate Bookmark to create bookmarks from detected headings.
  5. Click an existing bookmark to jump to the related page.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The bookmark list shows search results or newly added bookmark items.
  • Next action available: You can jump to the related page by clicking a bookmark.

4. Use thumbnails and attachments

  2. Browse the thumbnail list to locate the target page.

  4. Review the list of embedded files in the document.
  5. Use the available controls in the current interface to manage attachments.
