How-to Guide

1. Apply Superscript

Entry path: Text Editing → Superscript/Subscript button → X²

  1. Open the PDF and switch to text editing mode.
  2. Select the text that you want to format as superscript.
  3. Click the superscript and subscript control in the toolbar.
  4. Choose from the drop-down menu.
  5. Confirm that the selected text appears above the baseline.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The selected text appears above the normal text baseline.
  • Next step available: You can continue editing other text or save the file.

Tips While Using

  • Select the text first, or the control may not be available.
  • This task depends on PDF editing access in your account.

2. Apply Subscript

Entry path: Text Editing → Superscript/Subscript button → X₂

  1. Open the PDF and switch to text editing mode.
  2. Select the text that you want to format as subscript.
  3. Click the superscript and subscript control in the toolbar.
  4. Choose X₂ from the drop-down menu.
  5. Confirm that the selected text appears below the baseline.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The selected text appears below the normal text baseline.
  • Next step available: You can continue editing other text or save the file.

Tips While Using

  • Subscript is commonly used for chemical formulas and indexed variables.
  • If the PDF is a scanned file, you may need editable text before formatting can be applied.

3. Remove Superscript or Subscript

Entry path: Text Editing → Superscript/Subscript button

  1. Open the PDF and switch to text editing mode.
  2. Select text that already has superscript or subscript formatting.
  3. Click the superscript and subscript control.
  4. Click the currently applied superscript or subscript option again in the drop-down menu.
  5. Confirm that the text returns to normal formatting.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The text returns to the normal baseline position.
  • Next step available: You can apply another text format or save the file.

Tips While Using

  • One text selection cannot keep both superscript and subscript formatting at the same time.
  • Check the selected range carefully before removing the effect.
