1. View the live word count

Entry point: Status bar

  1. Open a WPS Writer document.
  2. Check the status bar at the bottom of the window.
  3. View the current word count in the status bar.
  4. Click the word count area if you want to open detailed statistics.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The status bar shows the current word count.
  • Next action available: You can continue editing or open the detailed statistics panel.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If you do not see the word count, first confirm that the current window is a WPS Writer document.

2. Open Word Count

Entry point: Review tab → Word Count

  1. Click Review on the top menu bar.
  2. Click Word Count.
  3. Wait for the statistics dialog to open.
  4. Review the detailed statistics in the dialog.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The Word Count dialog opens.
  • Next action available: You can review each statistic in the dialog.

  • Common mistake: Make sure the document window is active before using the menu command.

3. Check detailed statistics

Entry point: Word Count dialog

  1. Open the Word Count dialog.
  2. Check the number of pages.
  3. Check the word count.
  4. Check characters without spaces and characters with spaces.
  5. Check paragraphs, non-Chinese words, and Chinese characters.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: Multiple statistics are visible in the dialog.
  • Next action available: You can adjust the document based on the results.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Do not confuse word count with character count, because submission requirements may use different counting methods.

4. Count words in selected text

Entry point: Select text, then check the status bar or Word Count

  1. Select the text that you want to count.
  2. Check the selected-text count in the status bar.
  3. Click Word Count if you need more details.
  4. Review the detailed statistics for the selected text in the dialog.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The status bar or dialog shows statistics for the selected text.
  • Next action available: You can continue editing the selected text or select another passage to count.
