1. View the current document word count

Entry path: Tools → Review → Word Count

  1. Open the document and tap Tools at the bottom.
  2. Select the Review tab.
  3. Tap Word Count.
  4. In the statistics panel, review the following information:
    • Words: Chinese character count plus English word count
    • Characters (with spaces): Total characters including spaces
    • Characters (without spaces): Total characters excluding spaces
    • Non-Chinese words: Character count for all non-Chinese words
    • Chinese words: Character count for Chinese words

Success Criteria

  • The Word Count panel opens successfully.
  • Multiple statistics for the current document are visible.
  • You can continue editing after closing the panel.

Tips While Using

  • The statistics reflect the current document state and change after edits.
  • Punctuation is included in the total character count, but it is generally not counted as words.

2. Turn the live display entry on or off

Entry path: Tools → Review → Word Count → Live Word Count Display

  1. Open the document and tap Tools at the bottom.
  2. Select the Review tab.
  3. Tap Word Count.
  4. Select or clear Live Word Count Display.
  5. Return to the editing area and check whether the quick word count entry is shown or hidden.

Success Criteria

  • The setting for the live word count display has been changed successfully.
  • The quick entry in the editing area matches the selected setting.

Tips While Using

  • The quick entry appears in the editing area for easier access during editing.
  • If the display does not change, reopen the Word Count panel and check the setting again.
