1. Start document comparison

Entry: Review tab → Compare → Compare

  1. Open a document in WPS Writer.
  2. Click the Review tab on the top menu bar.
  3. Click the Compare drop-down button.
  4. Select Compare.

Success check

  • What you should see: A comparison dialog opens.
  • What you can do next: Continue by choosing the original and revised documents.

Notes

  • Common mistake: After opening the Review tab, make sure you choose Compare from the drop-down menu instead of stopping at the menu button.

2. Select comparison documents

Entry: Compare Documents dialog

  1. In the dialog, choose the original document.
  2. Choose the revised document.
  3. Click More if you want to adjust comparison options.
  4. Click OK to start the comparison.

Success check

  • What you should see: WPS starts comparing the documents.
  • What you can do next: Open and review the comparison result.

Notes

  • Common mistake: Make sure the original and revised documents are selected in the correct order so the direction of changes is easier to understand.

3. Review comparison results

Entry: Comparison result document

  1. Wait for the comparison to finish and open the result document.
  2. Review the revision marks in the document.
  3. Check the highlighted differences.

Success check

  • What you should see: Differences appear as revision marks.
  • What you can do next: Continue reviewing, accepting, or rejecting changes.

Notes

  • Common mistake: If there are many edits, review the document section by section so important changes are easier to catch.

4. Show source documents

Entry: Review tab → Compare → Show Source Documents

  1. In the output document, click the Review tab.
  2. Click Compare, then click Show Source Documents.
  3. Choose the display mode you need.
  4. Switch among these options as needed: Hide Source Documents, Show Original Documents, Show Revised Documents, or Show Original and Revised Documents.

Success check

  • What you should see: The document window updates based on the selected display mode.
  • What you can do next: Continue reviewing the original and revised documents.

Notes

  • Common mistake: If several windows are open, start with a single display mode to keep the review area easier to follow.

5. Merge comparison results

Entry: Review → Accept / Reject

  1. Review the marked differences in the comparison result.
  2. Use Accept or Reject for each change.
  3. Save the merged document after the review is complete.

Success check

  • What you should see: Processed revision marks update in the document.
  • What you can do next: Save the file as the final version.

Notes

  • Common mistake: It is often easier to save after all changes have been processed so you can do one final review first.
