Why can’t I set a separate header for the first page?
- Open the Page tab and enter Page Setup.
- Switch to the Layout tab.
- In Headers and footers, select Different first page.
- Click OK, then return to the document and edit the first-page header or footer.
Why do odd and even pages still show the same header or footer?
- Open the Layout tab.
- Select Different odd and even pages.
- Click OK to save.
- Enter the header or footer area on odd and even pages separately and add different content.
Why didn’t the Layout setting apply to the part I wanted?
- Reopen the Layout tab in Page Setup.
- Check whether Apply to is set to Whole document, Selected text, or This point forward.
- If needed, select the text first or move the insertion point.
- Click OK again to apply the setting.
When should I use the section start setting?
- Use sections when different parts of the document need different headers, footers, or page rules.
- In the Layout tab, set Section start.
- After that, adjust page settings for each section as needed.
- Review the layout of each section to confirm the result.
