1. Open Chapter Navigation

Entry path: View tab → Navigation Pane

  1. Open the WPS Writer document whose structure you want to review.
  2. Click the View tab.
  3. Click Navigation Pane.
  4. Check whether the chapter navigation pane appears on the left side of the document.

  • Interface result: A navigation pane appears on the left side of the document.
  • What you can do next: You can review the heading list and click a heading to move to that section.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the document does not use heading styles, the pane may not show chapter levels.

2. Jump by Heading

Entry path: Left navigation pane → Heading list

  1. Open the navigation pane first.
  2. Find the target heading in the left pane.
  3. Click the heading.
  4. Check whether the editing area moves to that section.

  • What you can do next: You can continue editing, reading, or switching to another section.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: Clicking body text instead of a heading item will not trigger section navigation.

3. Fix Headings Not Showing in the Navigation Pane

Entry path: Home tab → Heading styles

  1. Select the text that should be used as a chapter heading.
  2. Go to the Home tab.
  3. Apply an appropriate heading style, such as Heading 1 or Heading 2.
  4. Return to the navigation pane and check whether the heading now appears.
