Why are chapter headings not showing in the navigation pane?

  1. Check whether the chapter titles in the document already use heading styles.
  2. If the text was only made bold or larger, apply Heading 1, Heading 2, or another heading style instead.
  3. Return to the navigation pane and confirm that the headings now appear in the structure list.

How do I jump to a specific chapter in a document?

  1. Open the navigation pane from the View tab.
  2. Find the target heading in the left pane.
  3. Click the heading to move to that location in the document.

Can I reorder chapters in the navigation pane?

  1. Confirm that the document headings are already visible in the navigation pane.
  2. Press and hold the target heading in the left pane.
  3. Drag it to a new position, then release it and check whether the document structure has updated.
