1. Apply superscript from the ribbon toolbar
Entry point: Home / Text Tools → Superscript
- Select the text you want to format as superscript.
- Click the Home tab or Text Tools.

2. Apply subscript from the ribbon toolbar
Entry point: Home / Text Tools → drop-down arrow next to Superscript → Subscript
- Select the text you want to format as subscript.
- Click the Home tab or Text Tools.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to the superscript button.
- Click Subscript.
Success Criteria
- UI state: The selected text appears below the baseline.
- Next actions: You can continue editing other content in the same text box.
Tips While Using
- Common mistakes: If you click the superscript button directly, you will get superscript instead of subscript.
3. Apply superscript from the right-click menu
Entry point: Select text → right-click → Font → Superscript
- Select the text you want to format as superscript.
- Right-click the selected text and choose Font.
- In the Font dialog box, select Superscript.
- Confirm the offset setting if needed.
- Click OK.

- UI state: The text displays with the superscript style from the Font dialog box.

4. Apply subscript from the right-click menu
Entry point: Select text → right-click → Font → Subscript
- Select the text you want to format as subscript.
- Right-click the selected text and choose Font.
- In the Font dialog box, select Subscript.
