How-to Guide

1. Bring Forward

Entry point: Select the icon, then open Graphic Tools → Arrange, Home → Arrange, or the floating toolbar → Stacking Order.

  1. Select the icon whose order you want to adjust.
  2. Open the stacking-order menu from the available entry point.
  3. Click Bring Forward.
  4. Check whether the icon moves one layer closer to the front.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The selected icon appears in front of the adjacent overlapping object.
  • Next action available: You can repeat the action or switch to Bring to Front.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the icon is not selected first, the command may not take effect.
  • Environment note: The result is easier to see when at least two objects overlap.

2. Send Backward

Entry point: Select the icon, then open Graphic Tools → Arrange, Home → Arrange, or the floating toolbar → Stacking Order.

  1. Select the icon whose order you want to adjust.
  2. Open the stacking-order menu.
  3. Click Send Backward.
  4. Check whether the icon moves one layer toward the back.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The selected icon is partially or fully covered by the adjacent object that is now in front of it.
  • Next action available: You can continue moving it backward or switch to Send to Back.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If objects do not overlap, the change may not be obvious.

3. Bring to Front

Entry point: Select the icon, then use Arrange on the Graphic Tools tab, Arrange on the Home tab, or right-click the icon and choose Bring to Front.

  1. Select the icon that should appear above all overlapping objects.
  2. Open the Arrange menu or the right-click menu.
  3. Click Bring to Front.
  4. Confirm that the icon now appears in front of all overlapping objects.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The target icon appears at the front of the current stack.
  • Next action available: You can continue moving, resizing, or formatting the icon.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the object is inside a group, the visible result may be affected by the group structure.

4. Send to Back

Entry point: Select the icon, then use Arrange on the Graphic Tools tab, Arrange on the Home tab, or right-click the icon and choose Send to Back.

  1. Select the icon that should move behind all overlapping objects.
  2. Open the Arrange menu or the right-click menu.
  3. Click Send to Back.
  4. Confirm that the icon now appears behind all overlapping objects.

Success Criteria

  • Visual result: The target icon appears at the back of the current stack.
  • Next action available: You can continue adjusting the order of other objects.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If the icon is fully hidden, open a selection-related entry point first and then adjust the order.
