How-to Guide
1. Apply an Icon Outline
Entry point: Graphic Tools tab → Outline
- Select the icon to which you want to add a border.
- Click the Graphic Tools tab at the top.
- Click Outline to expand the available options.
- Select Theme Colors, Gradient Fill, Other Border Colors, Eyedropper, Weight, or Dashes as needed.
- Click the color or style you want to apply it to the icon.
- Click More Settings if you need more detailed adjustments.
Success Criteria
- The selected outline effect appears around the icon.
- Changes to color, thickness, or line style are visible on the current slide.
- You can continue with more detailed settings if needed.
Tips While Using
- The related Graphic Tools commands appear only after the icon object is selected.
- The outline is displayed around the outside of the icon, so thickness changes affect the overall visual result.
2. Customize an Icon Outline
Entry point: Graphic Tools tab → Outline → More Settings → Object Properties → Line
- Select the icon to which you want to add a border.
- Click the Graphic Tools tab.
- Click the Outline drop-down button.
- Select More Settings to open the Object Properties pane on the right.
- On the Fill & Line tab, click Line.
- Select No Line or Solid Line as needed, then continue adjusting options such as color, transparency, and line type.
- Preview the result and click a blank area to finish applying it.
Success Criteria
- The Object Properties pane opens on the right.
- Changes to the line settings update the icon outline in real time.
- You can keep either a no-line or solid-line result as needed.
Tips While Using
- More Settings is useful when the quick menu does not include the detail you need.
- If you select No Line, the icon border is removed.
3. Set It from the Home Tab
Entry point: Home tab → Shape Outline
- Select the icon to which you want to add a border.
- Click the Home tab at the top.
- Click Shape Outline.
- Select the outline style you want from the drop-down menu.
- Click More Settings to open the Object Properties pane if you need more detailed options.
Success Criteria
- You can change the icon outline directly from the Home tab.
- The selected style is applied to the current icon.
- You can continue in the Object Properties pane when needed.
Tips While Using
- This entry point is useful for quick formatting in the main editing area.

4. Set It from the Right-Click Menu
Entry point: icon right-click menu → Format Object

- Right-click the icon.
- Select Format Object.
- Adjust the border style in the Object Properties pane on the right.

- The right-click menu opens the object formatting settings.
- The Object Properties pane on the right can be used to change the outline style.

- This method is useful if you prefer right-click workflows.
- If you right-click outside the target icon, you may not open the settings for the correct object.
5. Set It from the Task Pane
Entry point: side Task Pane → Properties

- Click Properties on the side.
- Set the border style in the Object Properties pane.
