1. Create a New Object

Entry: Insert > Object

  1. Click the Insert tab on the top menu bar.
  2. Click Object.
  3. In the Insert Object dialog box, select Create New.
  4. In the object type list, choose the object type you want to create, such as a DOC document, DOCX document, Microsoft Excel worksheet, Microsoft Excel chart, or Microsoft PowerPoint slide.
  5. Click OK to finish the insertion.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: A newly inserted object or object container appears on the current slide.
  • Next action available: You can double-click the object and continue editing it in the corresponding program.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: If Create New is not selected first, you may enter the create-from-file flow instead.

2. Create an Object from a File

Entry: Insert > Object > Create from File

  1. Click Object.
  2. In the Insert Object dialog box, select Create from File.
  3. Click Browse and choose the file you want to insert.
  4. If you want a linked object, select Link as needed.
  5. Click OK to finish the insertion.
