1. Create a Custom Name

Entry path: Tools > Data > Name > Define Name

  1. Tap the Tools button at the bottom.
  2. Switch to the Data tab.
  3. Tap the Name option.
  4. Select Define Name.
  5. Enter a name, such as TotalSales.
  6. Select the cell or range reference to bind.
  7. Tap OK to finish.

Success Criteria

  • On-screen result: the new name appears in the name list or name panel.
  • What you can do next: you can enter that name in later formulas.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if the name duplicates an existing one, it may not be created as expected.
  • Environment note: open a spreadsheet workbook before defining a name.

2. Manage Existing Names

Entry path: Tools > Data > Name

  1. Tap the Tools button at the bottom.
  2. Switch to the Data tab.
  3. Tap the Name option.
  4. In the panel, review all names created in the current workbook.
  5. Do either of the following as needed:
    1. Edit the name or its reference range.
    2. Delete a name you no longer need.

Success Criteria

  • On-screen result: the name list displays existing names correctly.
  • What you can do next: after editing, you can save the updated settings; after deleting, the name no longer appears.

Tips While Using

  • Common mistake: if you delete a name that formulas still use, those formulas may no longer recognize that name.
  • Environment note: the management scope is limited to names in the current workbook.
