How-to Guide
1. Run Error Checking
Entry path: Formulas tab → Error Check
- Open the WPS spreadsheet file that you want to inspect.
- Click Error Check on the Formulas tab.
- Wait while WPS scans formulas across the spreadsheet.
- Review the error cause shown after the scan finishes.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: An error prompt appears after the scan is complete.
- What you can do next: You can return to the worksheet and revise formulas based on the prompt.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If no workbook is open, there is no current spreadsheet to inspect.
- Environment note: Large spreadsheets may take longer to scan.
2. Customize Checking Rules
Entry path: File → Options → Error Check tab
- Open WPS Spreadsheets and click File in the upper-left corner.
- Select Options.
- Open the Error Check tab in the settings window.
- Set the display color for error prompts as needed.
- Select or clear the rules that you want WPS to check.
- Click OK to save the settings.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: The settings window closes and the updated rule configuration is saved.
- What you can do next: Future error checks follow the current rule settings.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: If you change rules but do not click OK, the settings are not saved.
- Environment note: Rule settings affect how later checks report issues.
3. Detect Circular References
Entry path: Formulas tab → drop-down arrow next to Error Check → Circular References
- When entering a formula, first review the warning if WPS reports a circular reference.
- Close the warning and open the Formulas tab.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to Error Check.
- Check whether Circular References is available.
- If it is available, click Circular References to jump to the related cell. If it is grayed out, there is no circular reference in the current worksheet.
Success Criteria
- Interface result: When a circular reference exists, the related entry is available and can jump to the relevant cell.
- What you can do next: After locating the cell, you can edit the formula and continue troubleshooting the reference chain.
Tips While Using
- Common mistake: Closing the warning without opening the drop-down menu to locate the cell.
- Environment note: Availability depends on whether the current worksheet contains a circular reference.
