1. Enter DAYS through the Insert Function dialog

Entry path: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Click the fx button in the formula bar, or click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  3. Search for DAYS in the Insert Function dialog.
  4. Select the function and click OK.
  5. Enter each parameter in the Function Arguments dialog.
  6. Click OK to finish inserting the function.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The target cell contains a DAYS formula.
  • Next action available: You can continue editing parameters or press Enter to confirm the result.

Tips While Using

  • Keep the parameter order as end_date first and start_date second.
  • Make sure the entered values can be recognized as valid dates.

2. Type the formula directly in a cell

Entry path: Cell → Formula bar

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Type =DAYS(...) directly in the cell or in the formula bar.
  3. Press Enter to confirm the formula.
  4. If you want to review the syntax, type =DAYS( and press F1 to open the syntax prompt.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The cell returns the date-difference result.
  • Next action available: You can copy the formula to other cells for more calculations.

Tips While Using

  • Separate parameters with a standard comma.
  • If you use cell references, confirm that each reference points to the intended date field.

3. Check the syntax and parameter details

Entry path: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  2. Type DAYS in the search box.
  3. Select the function and review the syntax DAYS(end_date, start_date).
  4. Click the help link for the function to review more details.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: You can see the function name, syntax, and parameter details.
  • Next action available: You can return to the worksheet and continue entering or editing the formula.

Tips While Using

  • Focus on the parameter order when reviewing the syntax.
  • If the result looks incorrect, check the date format and referenced cells first.
