1. Insert COUNT from the function dialog box
Entry: Formula tab → Insert Function, or the fx button in the formula bar
- Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
- Click the
fxbutton in the formula bar, or click Insert Function on the Formula tab. - Search for
COUNTin the Insert Function dialog box. - Select the function and click OK.
- Enter each argument in the Function Arguments dialog box.
- Click OK to finish inserting the function.
Success Criteria
- The current cell contains a COUNT formula.
- The worksheet shows the corresponding result.
- You can continue editing the arguments or copy the formula to other cells.
Tips While Using
- You can search the function name in uppercase or lowercase, but the function name should remain COUNT.
- COUNT only counts numeric values in its arguments; text is not included in the result.
2. Type the formula directly in a cell
Entry: Cell area → formula bar
- Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
- Type
=COUNT(...)directly in the cell or in the formula bar. - Press Enter to confirm.

Success Criteria
- The cell returns a counting result after entry.
- The formula bar shows the full COUNT formula.

Tips While Using
