1. Insert COT from the Insert Function dialog box

Entry path: Formulas tab → Insert Function

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Click the fx button in the formula bar, or click Insert Function on the Formulas tab.
  3. Search for COT in the Insert Function dialog box.
  4. Select the function and click OK.
  5. Enter the required parameters in the Function Arguments dialog box.
  6. Click OK to finish inserting the function.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The target cell contains a COT function.
  • What you can do next: You can edit parameters, confirm the formula, or copy it to other cells.

Tips While Using

  • Use the standard function name COT when searching.
  • Enter numeric expressions as parameters to avoid formula parsing issues.

2. Type the formula directly in a cell

Entry path: Cell → Formula bar

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Type =COT(...) directly in the cell or in the formula bar.
  3. Press Enter to confirm.
  4. If you want to review parameter guidance, type =COT( and press F1.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: The cell shows a calculated result, and the formula bar keeps the full formula.
  • What you can do next: You can drag the fill handle or copy the formula for repeated use.

Tips While Using

  • Use standard English punctuation for formula separators.
  • Press Enter after typing the formula so the result is written to the cell.

3. Review syntax and parameter details

Entry path: Formulas tab → Insert Function

  1. Click Insert Function on the Formulas tab.
  2. Enter COT in the search box.
  3. Select the function and review the syntax COT(number).
  4. Click the help link for that function to open more details.

Success Criteria

  • Interface result: You can see the function name, syntax format, and the entry point to more details.
  • What you can do next: You can return to the worksheet and continue entering the formula, or adjust parameters after reviewing the help content.

Tips While Using

  • In the syntax COT(number), number is the numeric argument used for the cotangent calculation.
