1. Insert CLEAN from the Insert Function dialog

Entry: Formulas tab → Insert Function, or the fx button in the formula bar

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Click the fx button in the formula bar, or click Insert Function on the Formulas tab.
  3. Search for CLEAN in the Insert Function dialog box.
  4. Select the function and click OK.
  5. Enter the required parameters in the Function Arguments dialog box.
  6. Click OK to finish entering the function.

Success Criteria

  • The CLEAN function is inserted into the target cell.
  • The formula is visible in the cell or in the formula bar.
  • The worksheet returns a result or waits for the remaining parameter input.

Tips While Using

  • Searching with the uppercase name CLEAN can help you find the function faster.
  • Use English commas between parameters to avoid formula errors.

2. Type the formula directly in a cell

Entry: target cell or formula bar

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Type =CLEAN(...) directly in the cell or in the formula bar.
  3. Press Enter to confirm.
  4. If you want to review the parameter prompt, type =CLEAN( and press F1.

Success Criteria

  • The formula is entered successfully in the target cell.
  • A calculation result appears after you press Enter.
  • The full formula remains available in the formula bar for further editing.

Tips While Using

  • Make sure the parentheses are paired correctly.
  • If the result looks unusual, check whether the referenced content contains the text that needs cleanup.

3. Check syntax and parameter details

Entry: Formulas tab → Insert Function

  1. Click Insert Function on the Formulas tab.
  2. Enter CLEAN in the search box.
  3. Select the function and review the syntax shown as CLEAN(...).
  4. Click Help on this function to open more details.

Success Criteria

  • The CLEAN function is located in the function list.
  • The syntax display area shows the formula format.
  • You can continue to the help page for more parameter details.

Tips While Using

  • An internet connection is required to open the help page.
  • If you only need to enter the formula quickly, return to the worksheet and continue editing.
