1. Insert CHOOSECOLS from the dialog box

Entry path: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Click the fx button in the formula bar, or click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  3. Search for CHOOSECOLS in the dialog box.
  4. Select the function and click OK.
  5. Enter each parameter in the Function Arguments dialog box.
  6. Click OK to finish entering the formula.

Success Criteria

  • On-screen result: The target cell contains a CHOOSECOLS formula.
  • What you can do next: You can continue editing the parameters or press Enter to confirm the result.

Tips While Using

  • Search with the uppercase function name CHOOSECOLS.
  • Separate parameters with commas.

2. Type the formula directly in a cell

Entry path: Worksheet cell → Formula bar

  1. Select the cell where you want to enter the formula.
  2. Type =CHOOSECOLS(...) directly in the cell or formula bar.
  3. Press Enter to confirm.
  4. If you want to review the syntax, type =CHOOSECOLS( and press F1 to open help.

Success Criteria

  • On-screen result: The cell shows the calculated result or the formula itself.
  • What you can do next: You can copy the formula to other cells.

Tips While Using

  • Make sure the parentheses and parameter order are complete.
  • If the result is not what you expect, check the referenced range and column numbers.

3. Check syntax and parameter details

Entry path: Formula tab → Insert Function

  1. Click Insert Function on the Formula tab.
  2. Enter CHOOSECOLS in the search box.
  3. Select the function to review the syntax CHOOSECOLS(...).
  4. Click the help link for more details about the function.

Success Criteria

  • On-screen result: You can see the function name, syntax structure, and parameter details.
  • What you can do next: You can return to the worksheet and continue entering or editing the formula.
